Celebrating the Holidays in Washington, DC

Washington, DC is a wonderful place to celebrate the holidays as the storefronts, trees, buildings, and monuments are beautifully embellished with lights and garland making the city magical. Through the end of December, celebrations will be happening on each day and around every corner, making the absolute most of the Christmas season. Our DC B&B is in the center of the holiday festivities, as we are located just one mile from the White House and a 10-minute walk from DuPont Circle. Stopping by the White House and National Mall are musts, as well as these other must-see holiday events in DC!

The National Tree – A DC Christmas tradition! Every year, the National Tree lights up the President’s Park and brings holiday cheer to the numerous visitors during the holidays. For three weeks there is nightly musical entertainment for you to enjoy as you look at the beautiful, ornate holiday decorations.

Downtown Holiday Market – A fun and festive place to do your holiday shopping! Avoid the packed malls and standard gifts, and immerse yourself in the winter wonderland of the holiday market. Every weekend until December 23rd you can stroll through the market and explore over 150 regional artisans’ unique goodies as you enjoy holiday music and treats.

ZooLights – Each year, thousands of lights transform the National Zoo into a glorious holiday display. They’re open every night (except Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1), for you to tour the zoo and enjoy the splender of the extravagant light shows and displays. Many special holiday events are held as well, so be sure to check their calendar for what’s coming up. Admission is free!

Holiday Shows – The holiday classics are taking center stage at our top-notch theaters in DC, including The Nutcracker, A Christmas Carol, and ‘A Holiday Pops!’ featuring Megan Hilty. The Nutcracker featuring the Washington Ballet will be showing at the Warner Theatre through Christmas Eve. The holiday favorite, A Christmas Carol, will be brought to life at the historic Ford’s Theatre until New Year’s Eve.

Happy Holidays from all of us at AGH!
