Just off the National Mall sits one of the most amazing art museums in the United States, the National Gallery of Art. Located just a short walk from our Washington DC B&B its a great place to spend the day looking over centuries old pieces of art.
The beautiful Sculpture Garden is also attached to the museum and it is located in the National Mall, near our Washington DC bed and breakfast. The museum offers a wide variety of artists including paintings from Leonardo da Vinci (which is the only one in the North America), Claude Monet, Henry Rousseau, Pablo Picasso and much more. The art on display includes paintings, photographs, drawings, sculpture, medals, and decorative arts traces the development of Western Art from the Middle Ages to the present, including the only the largest mobile created by Alexander Calder.
The West Gallery contains neoclassical art and the East Gallery is modern, and the building was designed by I. M. Pei. There are displays of some of the best and most famous artwork from around the world at this gallery. The National Gallery of Art is located between 3rd and 9th St. on Constitution Ave. General admission is free.
There are many exhibits and special events that take place at the gallery and you can see which ones are upcoming by looking at the calendar on their website. During the summer every Friday night from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm is Jazz in the Garden, which is a free concert with performers varying in music styles.
