Miss America will air this Sunday on ABC at 9 pm. Fifty amazing women from across America join together for the biggest competition of their lives. Hours of preparation go into this night. Exercise and diet for the bikini competition, practicing talent routines over and over, and education on world affairs for the interview are just a small portion of the routine to get them ready. Now our Washington DC B&B is supporting one candidate in particular, Miss DC.
Cierra Jackson Is Miss DC 2016. She is a graduate of Spelman College where she gained her Bachelors of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in American Institutions and Processes. Cierra has an impressive resume with her many extracurricular activities and hobbies. She is a member of the Granddaughters’ Club—an organization for women whose family members also went to Spelman College. She is also a G.I. Bill Scholarship recipient. This talented woman is also no stranger to the stage. In 2011 she placed in top twelve at Miss Georgia—a preliminary to Miss America. She was also the first African-American Miss Rome Georgia in 2013, and Miss Columbus Georgia in 2015. What is more exciting, she will be the second woman from Spelman College to compete in Miss America.
Miss DC has already won her first Miss America award—preliminary lifestyle and fitness award. This means she is already being recognized for the talented young woman she is before the big night in Atlantic City. Her talent will be vocal singing, and her platform is: Behind the Frontline: Supporting Military Children. September 11th will be a very stressful night for her, but she is used to stage pressure and will absolutely do her best. Make sure to tune in to ABC at 9p.m. and cheer her on.
