From February 21st through the 24th, 2016, the American Legion is holding it’s annual Washington Conference at the Washington Hilton, just a block away from our Washington, D.C. Bed and Breakfast. Meeting at the nation’s capitol gives the organization’s leadership a chance to speak with elected officials to discuss legislative initiatives and priorities that are important to Legion members and their families alike. This is also one of the main opportunities that Legionnaires have to hear from their senators, representatives, and officials from the White House and Department of Veteran Affairs. Some of the main issues that will be up for discussion include but are not limited to; the effects of sequestration on national defense, the growing VA claims backlog, recent increase in TRICARE fees and co-payments, and veterans employment.
In addition to the Washington Conference, the American Legion’s National Veterans Employment and Education Division is offering a series of free events in the days leading up to it. The main events are career building workshops, such as the Resume Writing Workshop and the Hiring Our Heroes Career Fair.
