The Woman’s National Democratic Club was established in 1922 and it is housed in The Whittemore House, one of Washington DC’s most historic and elegant mansions-turned Museum, since 1927. WNDC’s expressed roll is to provide a place for local Democrats to meet. It’s members have a place for lively discussion from local influential Washingtonians as well as outstanding legislators, ambassadors, authors and a host of public figures. Today’s club continues to work towards moving forward public policy for issues concerning today’s woman, both locally and internationally.
The Woman’s National Democratic Club acts as a repository for unique collections concerning women’s political history; and to educate the public, especially women, about economic, social, and cultural issues by sponsoring special events at the club.
The Washington National Democratic Club is an active 501 (non-profit) in the community through which it sponsors educational community outreach by providing tutoring to DC elementary schools. They also provide grants for local high school students and a number of outreach programs for students in the area as well.
The WNDC sponsors an annual reception for new citizens directly after their naturalization ceremony at the U. S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The reception is usually attended by 100 to 150 new citizens and their families.
These are just some of the wonderful gifts provided to the community by the WNDC. We are proud to call them our neighbor and hope to share many more great acts bestowed upon our community and city by the Woman’s National Democratic Club.
