Tudor Place was built by Martha Curtis Peter, the granddaughter of Martha Washington and her husband Thomas Peter, the son of a successful Tobacco merchant. Tudor place remained under the ownership of the Peter family for six successive generations. After the last owner Armistead Peter III died, this estate was opened as a historical site and opened to the public in 1988 under the stewardship of the Tudor Place foundation.
The house is available for guided tours only. Tours are given at the top of each hour from Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 3pm and Sunday from 12pm to 3pm. The house tours last between 45 minutes to 1 hour. Admission for guided tours is $8 per adult, children 6 years and younger are admitted for free. The Garden is open for self-guided tour Monday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sundays from noon to 4pm. Admission for self guided garden tours is $3.
