The United States Capitol is a monument as well as a working office building and meeting place for the nation’s legislature. The Capitol also houses an important collection of American art, the Capitol’s architecture is an impressive creation on its own.
The Capitol draws millions of visitors each year. The campus is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and on Inauguration Day. Admission to the U.S. Capitol is free, however, you must obtain passes prior to your visit. You may book a tour through the offices of your Senator or office of your representative. You may also book a tour yourself by following a simple four step process on the Capitol Visitor Center’s website. Visitors are to enter the via the Capitol Visitor Center, located underground on the east side of the Capitol where the Exhibition Hall, gift shops, and restaurant are located.
