Georgetown has been known as the heart of the city, reaching back all the way to DC’s conception in the 1700’s. Georgetown is home to some of the oldest architecture in DC, including the Old Stone House, which is one of the oldest buildings in DC, located on the National Register of Historic Places. Situated along the Potomac River, you cant walk too far without being close to the water and having an amazing view. Georgetown is home to the main campus of Georgetown University, numerous other landmarks, and the embassies of Iceland, Sweden, Thailand, Cameroon and Ukraine. Construction of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal began in July 1828, to link Georgetown to Harper’s Ferry, which still runs through Georgetown today, adding a great touch.
Georgetown is home to many politicians and lobbyists. Georgetown’s landmark waterfront district was further revitalized in 2003 and includes hotels such as a Ritz-Carlton and a Four Seasons. Georgetown’s highly traveled commercial district is home to a variety of specialty retailers and fashionable boutiques, which is a favorite to tourists and locals alike. There are many restaurants as well, from four course meals that are sure to break the bank, to places like Falafel Inc. where you can buy a Falafel Sandwich for $3 and a percentage goes to help Refugees. Another favorite is Luke’s Lobster, where you can get some of the best lobster rolls this side of Maine, located right on M Street, one of the main streets that goes through Georgetown. And if you’re here on a Sunday, the Georgetown Flea Market runs from 8am-4pm, where you will find some of the best antique finds you’ve ever found.
