There is so much one can accomplish by visiting an embassy. You can apply for a Visa, request documents, learn about investment opportunities, learn about country’s traditions, research a business, school or a people, and even ask for asylum.
Did you know that there are 173 embassies representing 173 countries in Washington DC? There are 196 countries in the world plus Vatican City, Kosovo and Taiwan, and of these countries, 173 have an embassy in Washington, DC.
The Brasilian Embassy has had a presence in Washington DC since around 1824 and it has occupied several houses around the district until 1934 when it purchased the McCormick House located at 3006 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC, becoming the second embassy, on what we today call Embassy Row . Brazilian architect Olavo Redig de Campos is responsible for the design of the “black box”, as the embassy is known by many in the Washington DC metropolitan area.
The Embassy ceased to have consular responsibilities since the creation, in 2008, of the Consulate-General of Brazil in Washington, DC, located at 1030 15th Street NW.
